The Eastern Whitebud tree, Cercis canadensis alba, is best known for their profuse white pea-like flowers. The heart-shaped leaves of this redbud tree are 3-5" across and its fruit are brown flat pods about 2-3" long. The trunk of this small tree usually branches close to the ground resulting in a spreading flat-topped to rounded crown. This small deciduous tree is adaptable to other soil types but will not grow well in permanently wet or poorly drained soil. It is used as an ornamental or patio tree.

Autumn Purple Ash
The "Autumn Purple" White Ash, Fraxinus americana, 'Autumn Purple', is a seedless male tree and is a cultivar of the species which is native to moist areas. This fast growing White Ash tree grows 2/3 feet per year. It is almost pyramidal with a round top when young, but gradually slows down and develops an oval shape. Autumn Purple Ash trees prefer a sunny location. The Autumn Puple Ash tree makes a great tall shade tree.

The Japanese Red Maple tree is used to create a unique bonsai tree. The classic Japanese maple has red-purple leaves which turn a brilliant red in autumn.

The American
Hornbeam tree, Carpinus caroliniana, is a shade tolerant under
story tree. American Hornbeam trees are also known by the common
names of Musclewood, Ironwood, Blue Beech, and Water Beech
trees. The word "hornbeam" comes from the words "horn" for
"toughness" and "beam" an old English word for "tree" and refers
to this tree's very hard, tough, wood. This deciduous species
provides nuts that are eaten by many birds such as grouse,
bobwhite, pheasant and wild turkey. Cottontail rabbits and deer
nibble on the shoots of this tree. Carpinus caroliniana exhibits
leaves that are thin and beautifully translucent. This shade
tree will provide cool, dense shade in the summer because of its
many leaves giving a dense appearance. In late autumn the leaves
turn deep scarlet and orange providing good fall color tree.

October Glory
The October Glory
Red Maple tree, Acer rubrum 'October Glory', is one of the best
and most popular of the Red Maple cultivars. October Glory Red
Maple trees are excellent for intense fall color and have a
medium to fast growth rate. In the spring, red flowers in dense
clusters form before the leaves. This Red Maple is an excellent
tree for lawn or street planting. The 'October Glory' Red Maple
has a good oval-rounded form. It tends to hold its lustrous dark
green leaves late into fall. The intensity of the brilliant
orange to red fall color is worth the wait. October Glory Red
Maple trees have a dense oblong head with dark green foliage.

The
Coneflower Little Giant, 'Echinacea purpurea', is an easy to grow flower that produces beautiful, huge
clear pink daisy-like flowers. It is named little because it is
short and giant because of its huge 5” bloom size. Blooming from
July to October and a major attractor to butterflies and bees and
deer resistant, it is a must for any perennial gardens.
Echinacea is said to increase immune function, reduce the effects
of colds and flu’s, fights off viral, bacterial and fungal
infections and purify the blood and flush waste from the lymphatic

The
Grandiflora Hydrangea, Hydrangea paniculata, is a common American garden plant and highly valued for
its vigor and bloom dependability. Sterile flowers appear in August
and remain on the plant until the first hard frost.
The large conical shaped white flower heads turn to pink in the
fall with gray-green leaves. Sent to America from Japan in 1861,
this continues to be one of the best loved varieties. The blooms can
easily be used for drying. 6+ foot height at
maturity. |

The Lady Fern or Red Stem fern has a feathery
textured frond with a red stem. It is a slow spreading fern, which
will make a nice mass in a few years. The Southern Lady fern thrives
in the garden, given any reasonably good soil and will make a dense
stand over time. It prefers to have it's feet wet.
This plant is used for container plantings, borders, foundation
planting, massing and groundcover. The Southern Lady fern is
perennial and is deciduous. This very versatile plant goes well with
evergreen shrubs and Hostas. |

Patmore Ash
The Patmore Ash tree, Fraxinus pennsylvanica 'Patmore', better known as the Patmore Ash, is a lovely, fast-growing tree with 5-9 shiny green leaflets which stay on the tree well into the autumn. Patmore ash tree is a cultivar of the green ash, so it is very hardy and it tolerates drought well. The attractive shiny green leaves change to a yellow fall color. Extremely hardy. It is seedless. Widely used as a shade tree and a central lawn tree.
